Just like the title of this post implies, this is a recipe for brownies, plain and simple. We promise we'll get into more complicated desserts, but we've still got a few simple desserts to cover first. One of those simple recipes is this one for brownies. We think we've found the perfect recipe for homemade brownies because it has a short list of ingredients, easy instructions and tastes great.
This recipe is not much more difficult that baking brownies from a box, but the pay off is huge. You can brag to your friends and family that you baked brownies from scratch which is way more impressive than the box, just don't tell them how easy it was! That shouldn't be too difficult because all they will be able to say is that these brownies are chewy, dense and uber chocolate-y!
BROWNIES
INGREDIENTS
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 3/4 cups flour
- 3/4 cups cocoa powder (the best quality you are willing to pay for)
- 3 eggs
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup chocolate chips (milk or semi-sweet)
DIRECTIONS
In a small saucepan melt butter over low heat. In a mixing bowl combine sugar, flour, salt, cocoa, eggs and butter. Mix on low until just combined. Stir in chocolate chips. You can use any type of chocolate you like, milk or semi-sweet, chips or chunks. We used milk chocolate chips, but like any recipe that calls for chocolate chips feel free to use whichever chocolate suits your tastes best.
Use non-stick cooking spray to coat a baking dish and pour in the batter. The size of the baking dish depends on how thick you want your brownies. We like ours thicker so we used an 8 x 8, but 9 x 13 would yield "normal" sized brownies. We aren't normal. We reserved some of the chocolate chips to top of the batter, just in case it wasn't chocolate-y enough before.
Bake for 30 minutes or until the center is still slightly gooey and not completely set. They will finish setting as they cool and by taking them out a little early you can avoid the super hard edges.
And viola! The perfect brownie.
